Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't have an iOS device?

You do not necessarily need an iOS device. If you can get your hands on a device with a feature similar to iOS's Guided Access, then that device will do.

Is this FOSS?

Right now it isn’t open-source, so it’s really just FS. To build your own from scratch you just need to couple a database system, a server, and the camera API on your browser(s) of choice.

SnipVia is only a platform to ease your device's transformation into a smart doorbell. The durability of your new smart doorbell will depend entirely on the device you're using and its durability, the case that the doorbell is in, the location of the doorbell, etc. SnipVia does not increase a device's resistance to damage.

Are there any features in the pipeline?

There are! There are a few interesting features currently being developed for future updates. If you have an idea for a feature you'd like to see implemented, bring it up.

What happens if more than one person tries to set up a doorbell with my email?

It's not allowed unless you give out the pin. Applying your pin to the doorbell associated with your email address marks your consent to receive notifications, and ties your email address to that device. Should two people go to the same URL and enter the correct pin, the second device that receives the correct pin will override the first device to become the doorbell.

How do I disconnect my email address from a device?

If you cannot wait until you're automatically disconnected, then you can disconnect yourself manually. To do so, visit your email inbox. Any email delivered in regards to a SnipVia doorbell to your email address will have a "Disconnect this Doorbell" link at the bottom. Click the link to disconnect your email address from that doorbell.
